This newsletter includes two key updates about the Editing team's work:

1. The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
2. They are beginning a new project, Edit check.

Some of the upcoming changes

The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Eines de Discussió.

It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Afegeix un tema" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.

Daily edit completion rate by test group: DiscussionTools (test group) and MobileFrontend overlay (control group)

An A/B test for Eines de Discussió on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Eines de Discussió. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.

New Project: Edit Check

The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publica els canvis". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.

Seeking volunteers for the next step in the Universal Code of Conduct process

As follow-up to the message about the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines by Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Vice Chair, Shani Evenstein Sigalov, I am reaching out about the next steps. I want to bring your attention to the next stage of the Universal Code of Conduct process, which is forming a building committee for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C). I invite community members with experience and deep interest in community health and governance to nominate themselves to be part of the U4C building committee, which needs people who are:

• Community members in good standing
• Knowledgeable about movement community processes, such as, but not limited to, policy drafting, participatory decision making, and application of existing rules and policies on Wikimedia projects
• Aware and appreciative of the diversity of the movement, such as, but not limited to, languages spoken, identity, geography, and project type
• Committed to participate for the entire U4C Building Committee period from mid-May - December 2023
• Comfortable with engaging in difficult, but productive conversations
• Confidently able to communicate in English

The Building Committee shall consist of volunteer community members, affiliate board or staff, and Wikimedia Foundation staff.

The Universal Code of Conduct has been a process strengthened by the skills and knowledge of the community and I look forward to what the U4C Building Committee creates. We are glad to announce the new members and advisors of the Elections Committee. The Elections Committee assists with the design and implementation of the process to select Community- and Affiliate-Selected trustees for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. After an open nomination process, the strongest candidates spoke with the Board and four candidates were asked to join the Elections Committee. Four other candidates were asked to participate as advisors.

Deploying the Phonos in-line audio player to your Wiki

This wiki will soon be able to use the inline audio player implemented by the Phonos extension. This is part of fulfilling a wishlist proposal of providing audio links that play on click.

With the inline audio player, you can add text-to-speech audio snippets to wiki pages by simply using a tag:

The above tag will show the text next to a speaker icon, and clicking on it will play the audio instantly without taking you to another page. A common example where you can use this feature is in adding pronunciation to words as illustrated on the English Wiktionary below.

I am pleased to share the next step in the Universal Code of Conduct work. The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) draft charter is now ready for your review.

The Enforcement Guidelines require a Building Committee form to draft a charter that outlines procedures and details for a global committee to be called the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C). Over the past few months, the U4C Building Committee worked together as a group to discuss and draft the U4C charter. The U4C Building Committee welcomes feedback about the draft charter now through 22 September 2023. After that date, the U4C Building Committee will revise the charter as needed and a community vote will open shortly afterward.

Invitation for Wikisource Community Meeting October 2023

Hello fellow Wikisource enthusiasts!

We are the hosting this month’s Wikisource Community meeting on 28 October 2023, 7 AM UTC (check your local time). This meeting time is Eastern Hemisphere-focused and we will alternate the meeting times every month.

The first half of the meeting will be focused on non-technical updates and conversations like events, conferences, proofread-a-thons and collaborations. The second half will be focused on technical updates and conversations, such as talking about major challenges faced by Wikisource communities, similar to the ones conducted in previous Community meetings.

The Vector 2022 skin as the default in three weeks?

Hello. I'm writing on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Web team. In three weeks, we would like to make the Vector 2022 skin the default on this wiki.

Preferències globals

If you prefer keeping the current skin select "Vector legacy (2010)" on the appearance tab of the global preferences and save the change. We encourage you to give the new skin a try, though.

It would become the default for all logged-out users, and also all logged-in users who currently use Vector legacy as a local (but not global) preference. Logged-in users can at any time switch to any other skin. No changes are expected for these skins.

About the skin

[Why is a change necessary] When the current default skin was created, it reflected the needs of the readers and editors as these were 14 years ago. Since then, new users have begun using the Internet and Wikimedia projects in different ways. The old Vector does not meet their needs.

[Objective] The objective for the Vector 2022 skin is to make the interface more welcoming and comfortable for readers and useful for advanced users. It introduces a series of changes that aim to improve problems new and existing readers and editors were having with the old skin. It draws inspiration from previous user requests, the Community Wishlist Surveys, and gadgets and scripts. The work helped our code follow the standards and improve all other skins. The PHP code in the other available skins has been reduced by 75%. The project has also focused on making it easier to support gadgets and use APIs.

[Changes in a nutshell] The skin introduces changes that improve readability and usability. The new skin does not remove any functionality currently available on the Vector skin.

• The limited width and pin-able menus allow to adjust the interface to the screen size, and focus on editing or reading. Logged-in and logged-out users may use a toggle button to keep the full width, though.
• The sticky header makes it easier to find tools that editors use often. It decreases scrolling to the top of the page by 16%.
• The new table of contents makes it easier to navigate to different sections. Readers and editors jump to different sections of the page 50% more than with the old table of contents. It also looks a bit different on talk pages.
• The new search bar is easier to find and makes it easier to find the correct search result from the list. This increased the amount of searches started by 30% on the tested wikis.
• The skin does not negatively affect pageviews, edit rates, or account creation. There is evidence of increases in pageviews and account creation across partner communities.

[Customize this skin] It's possible to configure and personalize our changes. We support volunteers who create new gadgets and user scripts. Check out the repository for a list of currently available customizations and changes, or add your own.

Capturar dades de l'índex des de Wikidata

Hauríem de capturar totes les dades d'un índex des de Wikidata, com fem ara amb les dades d'autor amb la plantilla {{Autor}}? Suggeriments i opinions en MediaWiki_Discussió:Proofreadpage_index_template#Capturar-ho_tot_des_de_Wikidata. Mercis. -Aleator 19:28, 2 nov 2023 (CET)

M'he engrescat amb la captura de dades des de Wikidata i he adaptat la plantilla {{FD}}. Les diferències són: (1) ja no posa enllaç ePub si no existeix la pàgina, (2) si a Wikidata hi ha la pàgina de Viquitexts, la posa (excepte si porta l'enllaç per paràmetre), (3) si a Wikidata hi ha el badge de qualitat (validat, revisat, no revisat) llavors posa la icona corresponent, (4) si a Wikidata hi ha l'índex, posa la icona de l'índex. Més info a la seva pàgina d'ajuda.

També he creat la plantilla {{ObraWikidata}} per a obres declarades a Wikidata i que (A) no tenen digitalització (com les pàgs. de desambiguació), o (B) comparteixen l'index amb altres obres. Més info a la seva pàg. d'ajuda.

La idea és impulsar el treball amb Wikidata de manera centralitzada, però més, ja que ara mateix tenim feina gairebé per quintuplicat! perquè informem les dades de les obres a (1) l'índex de Viquitexts, (2) al fitxer de Commons, (3) a Wikidata, (4) a la pàgina d'autor i (5) a la pròpia pàgina de l'obra.

La proposta inicial tracta de la captura de dades de l'índex des de Wikidata, més o menys com fa la plantilla "Book" a Commons: i si hi ha res informat, ignorar les dades de Wikidata (per no trencar res). Per tant, a posar-se les piles amb Wikidata! -Aleator 20:07, 7 nov 2023 (CET)

Bé. ja he començat a fer la migració de codi. Nou mòdul Mòdul:Proofreadpage index template en construcció, categories de manteniment, nova pàgina d'ajuda Ajuda:Llibre... no hi hauria d'haver cap malfuncionament. Faig un resum dels darrers canvis. Els índexs ja capten gairebé tot de Wikidata. Hi havia un problema amb el camp Autor: resulta que si treiem l'Autor de l'índex, per tal de capturar-lo des de WD, el sistema no ho passa a la capçalera ({{header}}), tot i estar configurat com a header=true al MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index data config. He provat algunes coses però tenien problemes. Al final, he afegit a {{header}} la següent lògica: si hi ha algo com Autor a l'índex (ara, la majoria), ho seguim posant; però si no, si esborrem Autor de l'índex, l'anem a buscar a WD amb {{DAutor|qid}}, per a la qual cosa era necessari posar header=true al Qid al MediaWiki:Proofreadpage index data config. Segurament faré el mateix amb d'altres camps que, d'esborrar-se de l'índex, deixaran de sortir a {{header}}, com Traductor, Títol, etc. I segurament el codi d'aquestes noves plantilles ({{DAutor}}, {{DCompositor}}, {{ED}}, {{F}}, {{OW}}...) el passarè a un Mòdul per ser més eficients i reduir les crides al Mòdul:Wikidata. Només queda per migrar "Digitalització". Crec que el millor serà posar un enllaç a la digitalització de Commons i prou («Digitalització: Commons»). Les plantilles {{IA}}, {{GB}}, etc. pretenien donar més informació de l'orígen, però donen informació limitada (per exemple, no permet saber els detalls de la digitalització, si n'hi ha, com "he afegit OCR i he tret la marca d'aigua de Google"), de manera que quedaran obsoletes. Per una altra banda, capturar l'orígen des de Wikidata es pot fer, però de vegades una edició té més d'un enllaç a IA (més d'un escaneig), i potser també un o més a GB, etc. de manera que no sabria ben bé qué captar. L'ideal seria capturar la font des de Commons, però això ja és passar-se :S Deixem un enllaç a Commons i llestos? -Aleator 17:47, 14 nov 2023 (CET)

Problemes gravant sessió

L'error més comú és no poder desar, i el sistema els recomana de fer logout i després login, però això no sembla arreglar-ho. Algú sap què puga estar passant, per favor? Gràcies de bestreta. Cantavella (discussió) 16:40, 13 nov 2023 (CET)

@Cantavella: Hola! Podríeu escriure el missatge d'error literalment? No veig cap anomalia a https://www.wikimediastatus.net/#day (llevat d'alguns pics d'errors, però no és específic de Viquitexts, sino de totes les wikis). Gràcies, Aleator. El que ocorria dilluns era que a alguns dels estudiants voluntaris (no sempre els mateixos), una vegada transcrita una pàgina, clicaven a publicar i senzillament se'ls esborrava tot el que havien transcrit: la pàgina es quedava en blanc (tot i que marcada en rosa). A una part d'ells els eixia un missatge indicant que hi havia algun problema (sense especificar gaire quin), i que intentassen fer logout, i després login de nou. Però després de seguir aquest consell, el problema persistia. Em pregunte si la plataforma sospitava alguna mena d'atac, per sentir tanta gent alhora treballant des de la mateixa àrea. Però mai no havíem tingut problemes previs d'aquest tipus.

@Cantavella: Jo provaria a esborrar la memòria cau del navegador (de cadascun), abans de fer login.

El següent paràgraf no es del mateix, però potser dona alguna pista (extret de Ajuda:Registrar-se): «Un usuari es pot trobar ocasionalment que la seva sessió ha finalitzat automàticament abans de desar una pàgina que estava editant, o al canviar entre múltiples pàgines de Viquipèdia en diferents finestres. Això pot ser un resultat de les vostres configuracions de galetes, memòria cau o tallafocs, però a causa del funcionament del programari MediaWiki. Una mica d'informació d'identificació de l'usuari es desa en els servidors i a vegades, especialment durant alta càrrega dels sevidors, el sistema pot tenir un error de desplaçament de dades (glitch), resultant una finalització de sessió. Independentment del motiu, la solució més simple és marcar l'opció «Recorda entre sessions». Si ho feu en un ordinador accessible per més gent (p. ex. a la biblioteca, la feina o l'escola), si us plau cerqueu i esborreu la vostra galeta d'identificació d'usuari a l'acabar la vostra sessió.»

Hola de nou, Aleator. Ahir només van tenir aquest problema dos usuaris. Açò és el que passa: l'usuari ha fet login, ha editat una pàgina, i quan la publica, els canvis no apareixen registrats, i el sistema el desconnecta automàticament, amb aquests missatges:

Aquest és el missatge d'error que ens apareix quan intentem desar els canvis:

No us heu identificat amb un compte d'usuari. Quan publiqueu s'emmagatzemarà la vostra adreça IP a l'historial d'aquesta pàgina.

I tot seguit:

Disculpes! No s'ha pogut processar la vostra modificació a causa d'una pèrdua de dades de la sessió.

Pot ser que s'hagi tancat la sessió. Comproveu si teniu la sessió iniciada i proveu-ho una altra vegada. Si continués sense funcionar, proveu de finalitzar la sessió i torneu a iniciar-ne una. Comproveu que el vostre navegador permeti les galetes d'aquest lloc.

Això ha passat, com dic, només amb dos usuaris. A l'una se li ha resolt quan ha canviat de navegador; llavors el sistema s'ha estabilitzat i ja no li ho ha fet. A l'altre, en canvi, el truc de canviar de navegador no li ha funcionat. Cantavella (discussió) 09:39, 17 nov 2023 (CET)

@Cantavella: Hola! El segon missatge (session_fail_preview) pot ser conseqüència del primer. Llegeixo en un fil de MW que la majoria de vegades és per un fi de sessió, potser pel temps entre que es comença a editar i es vol desar.

Llavors anem al primer missatge (anonpreviewwarning), causant del segon. Sense cap mena de dubte apareix quan un usuari no registrat previsualitza una pàgina (lína 2983 del codi). Possibilitats:

a) L'usuari no ha fet login correctament, o sí però després ha fet logout sense voler.

b) L'usuari ha fet login correctament, sense marcar "Mantén-me connectat" (a Special:Login) i ha expirat la sessió (60 minuts: $wgObjectCacheSessionExpiry).

c) Problema de galetes i/o memòria cau, sobretot en ordinadors compartits: (c1) el navegador ha de premetre-les, (c2) esborrar-les del navegador abans d'iniciar cada sessió, (c3) bloquejadors? conflictes d'edició d'una mateixa pàgina? Bug al programari? (...) -Aleator 14:18, 17 nov 2023 (CET)

Una pregunta

@Jobuma: Hola! Sí. Conec dues maneres:

• Al menú de la pàgina en qüestió ha d'aparéixer un enllaç que diu "Informació de la pàgina": es mostrarà una sèrie de dades i entre elles una fila que diu "Visites a la pàgina en els darrers 30 dies". Abans es podia veure un gràfic amb el nombre de visites però ara no el veig enlloc. Què raro! Si no ho trobes, només cal afegir a la URL "&action=info" (per exemple, https://ca.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Autor:Ramon%20Llull&action=info).
• Però és molt millor l'eina Pageviews Analysis, amb gràfics i tot (per exemple, visites a "Libre de mil proverbis" dels darrers 20 dies).
